Zoning Characters are characters that utilize attacks, usually long range attacks, to control battlefield space, either to keep their opponent away from them, or to restrict their movement. Most zoning characters that are usually played defensively are also known as Keepaway characters, although zoning can also be used for offensive purposes to put pressure on the opponent. Dhalsim from the Street Fighter series is typically the iconic example of a keepaway zoning character, while Ryu can be seen as an offensive zoning character.
